The bedroom has always been a haven for many of us… a private domain to unwind and reflect, or a boudoir of love and intimacy.
As we celebrate Valentine’s this year, SpaAsia shares some bedroom secrets that are bound to touch the heart strings of your loved one; if not we guarantee you some good laughs with each other…
Touch
The main focus of a romantic, cozy bedroom is always the bed. A four-poster, veiled with a canopy and hanging sheets to give a greater impression of intimacy, and decorated with luxurious sheets and plush pillows are wonderful. Sheeets of satin, silk or pure cotton in bold colours or romantic pastel shades are personal choices; likewise with the choice to go with a down feather mattress or waterbed… as long as it is comfortable.
Sound
Another way to create the right mood and ambience is through music. Keep you favourite music CD or one with relaxation music on the player. A quiet peaceful bedroom will enable you to focus your attention on each other.
Sight
For ambience, one should definitely go with soft and filtered lighting. Low wattage bulbs or those that are opaque or a soft pink hue are nice. For that extra touch of romance, nothing beats the warm glow of candlelight. Place a few candles (different sizes, some aromatic) around the room but be careful of where they are placed.
Taste
To indulge for a little fun and games, place a platter of strawberries and whipped cream or melted chocolate by the bedside. A nice bottle of wine or bubbly would also add to the occasion.
Smell
Different scents can create different moods. Dab a little essential oil on the light bulb or add a few drops to a burner to create that relaxing or sensual mood. Dusting powder or rose petals on the sheets can also add to the air or romance.
Colour Your World
Colours play an important role in defining our emotions. Red, pinks, mauve and peaches are great colours for romance. These colours represent passion and positive yang energy, which signifies balance and harmony in your life. But be careful not to have too many strong colours present as they can overwhelm with too much energy.
Sensual & Romantic Aromas
Some essential oils to keep handy around the bedroom for that special occasion would definitely have to be:
Ylang Ylang - sensual, relaxing and balancing
Rose - rejuvenating, sensual and enhancing
Jasmine - relaxing, sensual and warming
Patchouli - sensual, earthy and relaxing
Lavender - relaxing, soothing and calming
Quality Time
Treat your partner to a massage… this could either be relaxing or sensual in nature. Your main focus should be on each other, maintain constant contact by touch. Bathing together is a romantic indulgence allowing you both to spend some quality time alone with each other. Get some aphrodisiac bath oil scents like jasmine or ylang ylang and add to the mood with candlelight and soft music. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast of coffee, croissants, scones or pancakes (for decadence try some champagne) to kick start a lazy day…
