A brief overview of energy healing as defined by various
Eastern philosophies:
Reiki
Commonly associated with energy healing, Reiki means “Universal
Life Force”. Rei, in Japanese kanji, defines spiritual
consciousness while Ki is life force. Stress-relieving,
it encompasses relaxation technique that taps into the body’s
internal and external chi. A therapist uses Reiki for healing
by using himself as a conduit for passing on the healing
energy.
Pranic Healing
Prana or life force is the principle of all living beings.
The belief is that an imbalanced prana (energy) in the body
is prone to illness. To counter the illness, pranic healing
encourages influx of prana to flow within the body for healing
and recovery. The chemical reactions within the body are
acceleration, which in turn lead to quicker healing process.
Such higher energy can be obtained from air, sun, earth
and even nature itself.
Colour Therapy
Colours resonate with energy; each with an individual wavelength.
In this case, the seven colours of the spectrum can enhance
the chakra or energy centres. In the healing process, each
chakra is represented by a different colour for a balanced
and healthy body, mind and soul. The colours are closely
related to the body: violet (crown), indigo (brow), blue
(throat), green (heart), yellow (solar plexus) and red (base).
Simply put, exposing yourself to the varied hues could evoke
different emotions and physical reactions.
Aromatherapy/Flower Essences
Flower petals are believed to absorb the sun’s vibrational
energies that can balance out negative emotions within and
around us. Make use of flowers for a harmonized and balanced
life and body.
Crystal Healing
As pretty as they look, crystals actually resonate energy
fields of their own. The vibrations emitted from crystals
can help establish the body’s natural balance as it
interacts with the body’s internal vibrations by emitting
positive healing energies as it clears away negative thoughts,
emotions and physical beings.
Qi Gong
Qi stands for energy while Gong is exercise, when combined,
the phrase means to harness energies within the body for
perfect balance through devised technique. The Chinese believe
that energy flows through the body and when it is blocked
or stagnant, illness soon beckons. Harness the vital energies
from within your surroundings and the channel or flow of
qi to the necessary areas can assist in your recovery.
Tai Chi
A dynamic form of Qi Gong, it closely resembles meditation
in motion as it uses a series of slow graceful movements.
Deemed to improve the flow of chi for calmness of mind and
promote self-healing.
Feng Shui
An Oriental art that deals with the arrangement of living
and working spaces for a harmonious environment. Feng is
wind while Shui is water; it works when a space is strategically
created to allow optimum flow of chi to enhance energies
from the space within to bring health, happiness and prosperity
to the inhabitants.
