| Managing Change: Fostering Convergence, Narrowing the Divide |
The theme of the 2008 Wellness Summit culminates the three-year build-up that began with The Gathering of Minds: Masters on Masters in Hua Hin in 2005.
This year’s theme focuses on managing a sea change that is happening in the realm of spa & wellness. Underpinning the above-mentioned sea change is the entry of the medical fraternity into the industry. Change must be channelled to allow for its positive energies to be fruitfully harvested. Ignoring it is unwise as change is inevitable in any entity that is alive and well. And nowhere else is it felt as greatly as in the realms of spa and wellness. Though seemingly divergent in nature the two fields that now converge – medicine and spa – have similar aims governed by the same collective consciousness. Change resulting through the convergence of these two entities needs managing and must be fostered to allow for greater nurturing to occur. Lest a clash may result that would cause one to overshadow the other, the growth of these two entities with seemingly divergent nature must be nurtured so each can flourish alongside the other. Perhaps only then the noble desire of democratization of wellness in its real sense can take root.
